Zine progress

I've been working on a zine to take to the bookarts fair in Birmingham on Friday, hopefully maybe I can swap some zines and fine some interesting artists.

So here's a few pictures of my progress so far

It's going to be a cute little comic about love and memories!

Recent Faeries and demons

Here are some little drawings I've done over the past couple of weeks...

Visiting illustrator

Today in uni we had a local Illustrator called Jessica Johnson come in and show us her work and talk a bit about herself and her career, It was a really interesting day, her work was so lovely and it was fascinating to learn a little more about the industry.
After Jessica showed us her work and finished the talk, she came and sat down with us and spoke to us about our own work, it was a really pleasant experience which gave me a bit of a boost in my motivation.
Here a selection of Jessica's work which I really enjoyed

I also found out about some other artists from the visiting illustrator that really interested me.

Sin Eater

I love both these styles from the artists that I found today!

Editorial progress

This first image is my latest and most probably final design for the first Editorial Illustration Brief, i have taken some inspiration from the illustrator  Phil wrigglesworth and used a limited colour palette and a simplistic character design. The image is meant to convey a graduate throwing aside her graduation garments and triumphantly holding up a polished CV. I feel like i haven't produced as much art for this first project as i could have, but editorial illustration has been challenging to my style of working.

This second Image is for a mini project where we were asked to produce an illustration of Grayson Perry to accompany a theoretical Radio times article about His talks about art in his Reith lectures.
I enjoyed creating this image because i feel i haven't used watercolour well recently, as far as the image goes, i'm pleased with it, but perhaps it would look better with something going on in the background?

The next task for the uni project is to illustrate two book jackets.

Mcm expo art prints and comics!

It was the mcm London comic-con this weekend, which was great fun and a fantastic opportunity to discover some very talented artists and comic makers! I left feeling truly inspired for the first time in a while and I'm so happy I was able to purchase some amazing prints and comics.

A collection of sketches by the Artist Ceylan..

Here are a couple of beautiful watercolour prints from the same artist.

I bought this little comic from Josceline Fenton's stall and I'm already in love with the story and art style!

Look at all the amazing things I bought!

Little illustrations from the past week

Just some little drawings and things I did recently

Book arts progress: Accordion book

Here are some pages from the accordion book made in the last book arts session, the process of making these little books in this format is a lot easier than making the pamphlet books, because actual binding is involved, all you do is fold :) not spending as much time making the book gave me more time to add some little illustrations and what not. The theme for this week was Journey, so I tried to document my Journey I take from Hereford to Salisbury via the train.

Making hand made books in this way really gives the impression of narrative and movement so this method was great for the theme of journey :)

Editorial Illustration Project

Running on Thursdays is the Editorial Illustration project, in which we learn a little about what the jobs entail and how to effectively create contemporary 'Editorial' style Illustrations.
For the first brief we were giving the opportunity to illustrate a found article about finding a job after graduation, I had a couple of initial ideas but ended up trying out this one, which i essentially a graduate triumphantly breaking through the cap holding up a sparkling CV.
I think i want to draw this out again and perhaps try colouring it on Photoshop.

Starting Book Arts Module In Uni

Today i experimented with the pamphlet structure, using found stationary and paper to create a small journal. I used a variety of envelopes, tags, and aged paper. Making this was pretty fun, especially finding places i could put secret pockets and folds. I'm rather pleased with the result, i want to do more!
